Accredited Independent Testing Validates Telos Information Assurance Solution’s Capability to Assess Federal Agencies
ASHBURN, Va. – March 24, 2009 –Telos® Corporation’s Xacta® IA Manager has received Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) validation by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) via independent testing. The SCAP validation process evaluates IA products against federally defined standards. Validated products are needed to effectively automate vulnerability management, configuration measurement and policy compliance evaluation, including Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) compliance.
With its risk management experience, Telos lends a level of breadth and maturity to the SCAP-based vulnerability and compliance market. Xacta IA Manager, Telos’ specialized information assurance solution, complies with NIST, Department of Defense (DoD), intelligence and other federal agencies’ critical infrastructure requirements, and now facilitates the automation of FDCC compliance scanning. Telos has integrated SCAP at the host level, whereby Xacta HostInfo for Windows, a component of Xacta IA Manager, checks the compliance state of a particular workstation, in this case either a Windows Vista or XP platform. Customers may immediately upgrade to this latest software release, based on their respective licensing and maintenance agreements.
“Telos’ successful performance in independent laboratory tests represents an important step in validating Xacta IA Manager as an SCAP-compliant IA application to serve the federal government,” said David Wilson, vice president of product management for Telos. “We have always focused on risk management and the automation of security authorization processes, such as NIST 800-37 and DIACAP. This SCAP validation builds a bridge from IT risk management down to vulnerability and configuration assessment at the asset level. This is also an essential functionality needed to automate a number of the 20 controls outlined in the Consensus Audit Guidelines, which are available for public comment.”
Xacta IA Manager includes security assessment/certification and accreditation automation features that meet more than 150 leading regulations and policies and more than 9,500 requirements and controls for IT risk compliance and management. Xacta IA Manager provides a continuous assessment that monitors and manages information security risks and aids in developing remediation plans to correct them.
Many federal agencies and commercial enterprises rely on Xacta IA Manager to continuously manage security compliance and risk as well as initiate corrective actions that are necessary to protect their systems. With a variety of flexible licensing options, Xacta IA Manager offers a full range of support, implementation and training services to ensure customers receive the maximum value and productivity from their security management solutions. This new capability will be demonstrated for government security professionals at Security Solutions 2009 in Tampa, Fla., May 12-15.
This initial SCAP validation was performed on the Xacta HostInfo for Windows. When NIST updates its validation program to cover other Windows and non-Windows platforms, then the other Xacta HostInfo versions will be validated as well. Currently, Xacta HostInfo supports Windows, MAC, Linux, and Solaris platforms. The testing was completed by Science Applications International Corporation’s SCAP testing laboratory, which is a NIST-accredited lab for the SCAP initiative.
