Company to Provide Project and Technical Support Under $4 Million Order
ASHBURN, Va. – January 25, 2011 — The Air Force has awarded Telos® Corporation a task order to sustain its secure messaging system, the Defense Messaging System (DMS) organizational messaging capability used across the Department of Defense (DOD). The Telos Automated Message Handling System (AMHS) is the application that implements the message handling portion of the DMS within the Air Force worldwide.
Under the task order, awarded from the Network Centric Solutions (NETCENTS) contract vehicle, Telos will provide labor and services to the Air Force Defense Message System Program Management Office, Air Force Program Executive Office for Enterprise Information Systems (AFPEO for EIS), at Maxwell Air Force Base, (Gunter Annex), Ala. The contract runs for one base year with a one-year option period and is valued at almost $4 million if the option is exercised.
“The Telos support is focused on both management and technical activities that ensure the existing high level of service can continue, providing a modern, secure, electronic communications capability for both classified and unclassified official message traffic,” said Mike Masters, vice president of Secure Messaging Solutions for Telos. “With the further consolidation of messaging facilities during the past year, the Air Force will realize significant savings in addition to the initial $80 million savings that resulted from the decision to migrate from the original DMS architecture to one centered on Telos AMHS.
“As defense budgets shrink, the ability to take advantage of emerging technologies and more efficient architectures is extremely important,” he said. “Our goal is to work with the Air Force to sustain what has been fielded while helping the customer to look for more efficient, less costly methods of information exchange.”
Telos’ secure messaging system, AMHS, has been deployed across DOD to support all formal government message traffic including legacy systems. It allowed the department to take advantage of the power of the standard browser from a variety of manufacturers in a web-centric architecture and marked a turning point in the way in which the DMS program was being implemented. AMHS has continued to add features that are reflective of new information exchange concepts while maintaining the reliability and security features that are critical to the DOD mission.
Telos serves as a prime contractor on the five-year, $9 billion NETCENTS contract vehicle.
NETCENTS is an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract that provides the Air Force, DOD and other federal agencies with a single vehicle through which to buy network-centric information technologies, networking equipment, and services, as well as voice, video and data communications hardware and software and telephony solutions from preferred contractors. NETCENTS provides a proven competitive edge for the federal government by reducing the time-to-market for critical networking and communications equipment and services.
