Ashburn, Va. – February 9, 2018 – Telos® Corporation CEO and chairman John B. Wood issued the following statement after Congressional approval of a two-year budget deal.
“The approval from both the House of Representatives and the Senate for a two-year, bipartisan budget agreement is a welcome step forward for all federal agencies.
The constant uncertainty surrounding funding levels has been a significant burden for our military and intelligence community who are working to meet constantly evolving threats and properly prepare for the future.
Today’s agreement should finally put this uncertainty to rest. The length of the agreement and the lifting of the artificial spending caps will allow the federal government the increased resources and stability needed to meet these challenges and do more long-range planning, which is more important than ever for national security.
As Defense Secretary James Mattis said, “For too long, we have asked our military to carry on stoically with a ‘success at any cost’ attitude.” With this deal in place, the men and women protecting our country won’t have to worry about partisan debates in Congress over spending levels impacting their missions.
The increased funding also comes at a critical juncture for civilian agencies, which are in the midst of a massive effort to transform federal information technology. Legacy IT systems have overwhelmed agency budgets because they are costly to maintain and difficult to secure. In tandem with implementation of the Modernizing Government Technology (MGT) Act, this agreement paves the way for agencies to receive dedicated funding to ensure access to, and deployment of, commercial cloud platforms and other innovative, more secure technologies.
My hope is that today’s agreement marks the beginning of renewed bipartisan cooperation that delivers real solutions to the challenges facing our nation and the men and women who risk their lives to ensure our safety.”
