During a wartime speech in 1940, Winston Churchill said, “Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.” His words still ring true today. Currently, there are about 19 million U.S. veterans – less than 10 percent of the total U.S. adult population – to thank for the freedoms we too often take for granted.
I am proud that at Telos, we maintain a profound appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who wear our country’s uniform. This appreciation is woven into the fabric of our organization, in part because over 25 percent of the Telos workforce has served in the military. We have also worked alongside the armed forces for decades to help them secure the people, information, and assets needed to successfully complete their missions. We work beside military veterans – whether colleagues, customers, or partners – each and every day.
I hope you will join me in honoring our veterans, starting right here in our Telos community. Here are a few ways to recognize and thank service members today, and year-round:
- Consider volunteering at one of the many organizations dedicated to supporting and caring for veterans and their families. Telos has had a long-standing commitment to supporting veterans and military families through our support of organizations such as the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors.
- Show your support for military service as a viable and respected career option with our nation’s youth. Years ago, it was not uncommon for most families to have a service member among them. Today, less than one percent of Americans serve in the military. It is a valued and honorable career path.
- Ask a veteran to share their story—you’ll likely walk away with a new appreciation for the sacrifices that come with wearing the uniform. Thank them for their service with the sincerity that comes from getting to know them and understanding their experience.
There are many ways to say “thank you” to our veterans, and I encourage you to show your appreciation in a meaningful way. I want to take a moment to sincerely thank all veterans and their families for their choice to serve and sacrifice for our country. I encourage you to take a moment this Veterans Day to do the same.
