04.15.2008 -- Telos Lands Contract for Enterprise-wide Messaging for the Canadian Military
Order Includes Hardware, Software for Automated Message Handling System
ASHBURN, Va. – April 15, 2008 – Telos® Corporation is installing a Web-based, enterprise-wide organizational messaging capability for the Canadian Ministry of Defence under a task order as a part of the NETCENTS contract vehicle. The contract includes options for three years of maintenance following successful fielding.
Telos is installing a customized version of the Xacta Automated Message Handling System (AMHS). Once acceptance testing is complete, the system will be installed in a Regional Communications Node and at a backup site and begin providing operational messaging services as a part of the Canadian Military Message Handling System.
Ultimately AMHS will enable the Canadian military to send and receive messages within the Canadian Force structure and, by using specially configured gateways, to exchange message traffic with the United States Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps.
“This was an exciting win for Telos and gave us a chance to bring the enterprise-wide messaging functionality to our allies in the North. There has been a lot of hard work in making changes in the basic system to meet the requirements of the Canadian messaging environment, and the teamwork and cooperation between the Telos and Canadian technical staff has been outstanding. We look forward to the day when AMHS services the messaging needs within the National Defence and the Canadian Forces,” said Mike Masters, vice president of Xacta Messaging Solutions for Telos. “With the execution of the maintenance years, Telos plans to be involved with the Canadian military into the future.”
Under the contract, Telos is providing hardware, software, installation and special modifications to the baseline product. Some of the changes include the capability for the AMHS to provide services in French and English simultaneously, according to user preference. Other Canadian ideas offer improvements that the U.S. military services can use today. These improvements are being incorporated into the baseline product to the U.S. government.
“The deployment of AMHS in Canada marks our first step in providing organizational messaging support to multinational 21st Century warfighters,” said Frank Whitehead, senior vice president and general manager of Telos’ Xacta Division. “This 21st Century warfighter will often work in a coalition environment and must have the ability to communicate with allied forces. AMHS is a part of what enables this to happen.”
AMHS simplifies the process of sending and receiving official communications because it does not require a thick, client-server architecture in order to send messages over the DoD or other existing networks. AMHS is the next generation of the Defense Message System (DMS) providing a Web-based solution that greatly simplifies configuration management, system administration and customer interface to the DoD record messaging system.
